Brown’s Self-Insurance and Commercial Coverage Programs

Workers Compensation (WC) is state-mandated for employers to provide payment of medical expenses and partial wage replacement to employees who are injured while working. For injuries or occupational illnesses arising out of and in the course of one's employment, benefits may include but are not limited to medical expenses and, in some instances, some or all lost wages.
The University purchases a property insurance policy that includes coverage for University-owned property (buildings, contents, equipment, boats, etc.) in the event of insurable events such as fire, flood, vandalism, and theft. Property insurance provides coverage for sudden and accidental losses.
Brown University may authorize the use of its facilities for non-business and non-political purposes. When this occurs, a specific policy governs the insurance requirements for these facilities. Other certain university events, such as co-sponsored events, may also require insurance coverage.
Brown's Travel Policy includes insurance information for auto rentals and personal vehicles. All auto accidents regardless of severity must be reported to the Insurance Office within 48 hours.
